On Sunday, January 11, 2015, over 500 people came together to mark the 100th Anniversary of the execution of Bhai Mewa Singh. Artists, academics, and activists gathered in New Westminster to remember and recognize the site of the execution as well as the legacy of this important moment in Canadian history. An afternoon lecture, Shabad Chaunki, Memorial Commemoration and Sehaj Paath Bhog featured over 20 academics, artists and activists who looked at the importance of Bhai Mewa Singh in Canadian history and his legacy to our present day. A free Mewa Singh commemorative booklet was also released and was distributed to Gurdwaras across Metro Vancouver.
